Every body tells a story. Your hobbies, your job, your kids, your commute, your pain, stress, and grief. It’s all there in the patterns that exist in your body. Unfortunately, this is often a story of distress. And let’s face it, when pain holds you back from enjoying something you love, it can be depressing.
Here’s the good news:
You are a remarkable machine, a web of living tissue that knows how to repair itself. But if it were as simple as stretching more, you’d have done it by now. To get your body back to a place where it is your vehicle and not your obstacle, you need the help of someone who understands what your life demands, has a solid knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, and knows how to give a deep, targeted super-relaxing massage that gets to the root of your problem.
You have come to the right place. It is possible to feel better.
Gretchen opened Saltwater Massage Studio in 2013 with a dream to create a beautiful, comfortable space where people can get help with pain, relief from stress, and resources to improve their health and quality of life. What started as a small solo practice in a tiny 2nd floor space on Main Street has grown into a flourishing massage center with a team of excellent massage therapists and she couldn't be more proud. "It's the right group of people at the right time. You pretty much can't go wrong, no matter who you book with!"
Gretchen's massage therapy is often described as "gentle-deep". She believes that the art of massage lies in a solid foundation of anatomical knowledge combined with developing a keen ability to feel and interact with muscular and fascial restrictions. "It's about working WITH the tissue and responding to what is happening on that day." Gretchen blends myofascial release therapy, neuromuscular therapy, and deep tissue techniques into a deeply relaxing session that allows for therapeutic rest.
Gretchen graduated from the 900-hour Advanced Muscular Therapy program at Cortiva Institute in Watertown, MA and holds a BA in psychology and a 200-hour yoga teacher certification from Back Bay Yoga in Boston, MA. Gretchen is also certified in Ayurvedic Bodywork through the California College of Ayurveda in Nevada City, California. Gretchen has also designed and taught an Anatomy for Yoga Teachers course which was included as part of the Yoga Teacher Training Program curriculum at Treetop Yoga Studio in 2016 (Katy Dagle, lead teacher) and in 2017 (Annakatheryn Carlson, lead teacher). She was previously the Director of Client Services at Strongest Link AIDS Services in Danvers, MA and the Associate Director of Client Services at Cambridge Cares About AIDS in Cambridge, MA. She has presented at the National Conference on Social Work & HIV/AIDS and the National Harm Reduction Conference on topics related to health education and peer-driven service delivery models for harm reduction programs.

Jemma has been a familiar face in the Cape Ann health and healing world for many years as both a massage therapist and yoga instructor and is passionate about working with people through both movement and muscular therapy. Jemma strives to help people connect to their bodies, hearts and minds through curiosity, balance, and mindfulness so that they may develop comprehension of where and what is in resistance and offering the tools to learn how to release. In her massage therapy work, Jemma incorporates deep tissue, myofascial therapy, and active release techniques to get to the root of symptoms, relieve pain, and unwind tension patterns. When more gentle work is needed, Jemma incorporates Craniosacral Therapy (a form of light-touch bodywork applied to the head, spine and pelvis) and Reiki to promote healing and restoration in the body.
Jemma is a graduate of Spa Tech Institute in Ipswich, MA and has completed Reiki Level 2 Training. She completed her 200 hour yoga certification through Iron Crow Yoga Studio, followed by 100 hours of Anusara Yoga Immersions 1, 2, and 3. Jemma also holds a Masters Degree in Theatre Education.
